As the use and the development of technology increases as a whole among all of society, education technology also is advancing. More students and teachers are using technology in the classroom in order to keep up to date on all the latest breakthrough. It is important to teach students who are soon to enter the job force, these new, modern, and useful approaches to education and life as a whole.
The ISTE standards are advanced standard for how students and teachers should go about using technology in the classroom. One standard that is meaningful to me is the “empowered learner standard.” This is because I believe taking an active role in my education is important to me. I recognize how privileged I am to have the opportunity to get an education, so I choose to actively pursue my learning.
One standard that I may consider to be outside of my skill set is the “global collaborator standard” this requires you to recognize different global outlooks while finding a common ground and working together to reach a goal. I ding this difficult because sometimes I have issues when working in groups. I am very hands on and like to be in control, so I usually end up taking work into my own hands rather than effectively collaborating with others with different opinions.
I agree with what it means to be a “digital native” in that students must abide but certain guidelines to make their technology use safe and ethical. I think there are certain differences between digital natives and digital immigrants mainly because of the age gap between students and teachers. Digital natives in general use more modern technology and are fluent in a younger network than teachers. Teacher may use more outdated forms of technology. I see this as the biggest difference. I anticipate a similar divide with my students if I become a teacher, although I will try to avoid this when possible.
