ILP Participation- Florida Food Handler's Certificate

Image
I completed a mandatory food and drink handling course for a restaurant in which I previously worked at. All employees were required to complete this course. It is a law in Florida. The course I participated in costed my around $10. It took me a total of about 5 hours. (3 hours for food handling and safety regulations and 2 hours for an alcoholic beverage course.) The food portion of the course included an online textbook which I was prompted to thoroughly read though. The textbook was broken into sections. The sections included how to handle meat properly, how to sterilize cooking tools, and how to handle allergens to ensure the safety of your customers. Handling meat is very important to the safety of the customers. Varying temperatures can greatly affect not only the quality of a meat, but also the bacteria that lives on the meat. For example, thawing meat, then re-freezing it can actually cause bacteria to duplicate on the surface of the meat. This can lead to sickness of customer...

As a teacher, excel tools and data collection surveys can be very useful. These tools make it easy to keep accurate records of anything from budgets to grading assignments. These tools make it easy to keep track of how well certain students preform on an assignment but also how wells students dude overall. Excel can calculate almost any formula you could possible want to know about a class as a teacher. For example, the average, the mean, the max/min, the sum, ect. A teacher could also use surveys to get feedback about how students like a certain assignment, the class, or your ways of teaching. When reviewing my classmates’ blogs, I found the blog posts about assistive and adaptive technologies the most interesting. These technologies are very important in my opinion. They can be the future of learning. They also make many students who have learning disabilities able to learn which is a beautiful thing. These technologies make it possible for people will disabiliti...

“The Flipped Classroom” is a way of teaching a class that requires students to essentially teach themselves the material and incorporate it and discuss it in the classroom. This allows students to develop their own questions and better understand the material in class when they actually have to apply it. I think this is a great approach to learning effectively. I have experienced this a few times while being a student. OER are Open Educational Resources. These are resources that are open to the public for use without any type of license. These are useful because they can be easily accessed and educate many people that may not have access to a proper education or other expensive resources. There are many OER research hubs online. https://www.oercommons.org/oer This specific website allows you to browse OERs by topic and grade. In the last two projects, I have advanced my PowerPoint presentation skills I have learned how to do a voiceover, add media, and add com...

Diigo is a very well though out search engine. This tool is particularly helpful when dealing with collabaration or group work. This took allows you to share articles to "groups" highlight specific parts of the articles, and comment on posted articles. This allows you and others to be on the same page and reading/understanding the same material. This tool can also be helpful to yourself when working alone because it allows for great organization. There are many ways in which PowerPoint is helpful. It can be specifically helpful when supporting student learning of bloom's taxonomy. This model helps differentiate and explain the different levels of educational learning. Someone can use PowerPoint to explain an idea like Bloom's Taxonomy because a page can be specific to each level of the taxonomy. This will keep student's understanding of the information more organized and clear. Another example of this could be the food pyramid. A page of PowerPoint can be designa...

A paragraph discussing your experience with Twitter so far. What have you learned from using Twitter?  What are the benefits of using Twitter?  Are you experiencing any issues? A paragraph on new skills you acquired from working on the Web Design assignment and reflect what you like/don’t like about it. How you can improve it next time and how what you learned from the assignment can be used in your future career?  Post a screenshot and link to your website . A paragraph on assistive and adaptive technologies and how they are used to support learners. Have you or anyone you have known used such technologies? What challenges do you perceive using adaptive technologies in your classroom? My experience with twitter so far has been positive. I have enjoyed using it for class and for my personal life. I use it for fun or entertainment purposes. I also use it to keep up with current events for things such as politics and other forms of news updates. I have not been using ...

My first thoughts using diigo were that this is complicated and unnecessary. Once I began using it more and understanding its purpose, I really started to like it. I think diigo is very beneficial for collaborative work. It helps keep you and your group or partner on the same page. You are able to highlight the same areas like you would like to emphasize so that you understand the websites and readings the same way, I do like blogging. I think they are a modern way of doing discussion boards. I think it would be more beneficial if people read on commented on each other’s blogs to understand their different outlooks and things like that. But blogging overall helps me understand what blogging really is and to be more exposed to the internet in classroom settings. A web 2.0 tool that I would like to use in the classroom are smartphones. The possibilities are endless for these devices. A lot can be done from a cellphone that can be done on a computer in a more modern...

I do not personally use twitter. However, I have used it for multiple classes throughout my education at Florida State. I have been interacting with fellow classmates, news channels that tell me current events, celebrity accounts, and some funny accounts. I have found that twitter is a good social media platform that combines education and personal life. It it also a great way to keep up with current events. Even our President tweets! I am a believer in "digital divide" because I have experienced it personally in my own classes. I have noticed that some people are less familiar with some forms of technology than I, or other students. This can create a divide in the classroom. It can be difficult to get all the students on the same page if this divide is present. Teachers that experience this in their classroom should thoroughly explain what is expected of their students so they can review these skills on their own time. An academic software I might want to use in my classro...
